Analogies of the mind
The mind is the greatest muscle we have. However, most of the time we are not using it properly and even we use it, it is not serving us at its full capacity.
More often, it distracts us from the present moment, brings us into a bad mood and we don’t even understand where it came from.
In the ancient yoga, they say it is like fire. If you tame it, you can cook on it, get heated, make things out of it but if you leave it uncontrolled, just like fire it can destroy you.
Do you realize how many thoughts, concepts, senses pass through in your mind in a millisecond ?
Do you find yourself in the middle of a scenario that it has created out of one concept which you don’t even remember the starting point ?
The mind only works with an object. Therefore if you don’t feed it with an object for a while, it will bring up the old records and will keep you in the past or will introduce some future worries to keep itself occupied. The only way to keep it in the present moment is to focus it on one object and that object – luckily we all equally have – is the breath.
Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Mindfully watch what your mind is showing you. Without getting angry or frustrated. Just watch it. See if it helps with the next time you need to focus to keep you stay focused 🙂
